The origins of the hospital library date back to the time of the
Harrogate School of Nursing, which had a small library room in the old
Harrogate General Hospital. The School was subsequently taken over to become
part of the North Yorkshire College of Health Studies, which in turn became
part of the University of York. When the General Hospital was closed, the
library became part of the new District Hospital building. Then in August 2008, the library and staff transferred to management by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
